Formerly known as the University of Western Sydney, the multi-campus Western Sydney University is located in Sydney's greater western area. Nepean College of Advanced Education and Hawkesbury Agriculture College was formed in 1989 to establish a federated network university.
In 1989, the institution established the Macarthur Institute of Higher Education. This was a significant change in the Institution of Western Sydney's organizational structure in 2001 when the federation model was replaced with a single university with many campuses. The University of Western Sydney was renamed Western Sydney University in 2015 as part of a rebranding effort. University of New South Wales (UNSW) is a supplier of undergraduate and graduate degrees and higher research degrees.
All university campuses have their distinct histories and stories to tell. For example, the NSW Agricultural Society founded an agricultural college on the Hawkesbury site in 1891. Governor Lachlan Macquarie, who founded the Female Orphan School at Parramatta in 1813, is the current owner of and has repaired the structure.
