There are two campuses of the State University of New York at Buffalo, often known as the University at Buffalo (UB): Buffalo and Amherst in New York State. A private medical school, it became part of the State University of New York system in 1962 after its founding in 1846. The SUNY system's premier school and Stony Brook are members of this exclusive group. New York State Institution at Albany is the state's most prominent public university, with 32,347 students enrolled in 13 schools and colleges as of fall 2020.
The Institution at Buffalo (UB) is a big, public research university with a high level of academic research. More than 140 different undergraduate programmes, 220 graduate programmes, 95 doctorate programmes, and 55 combined degree options will be available by 2020.
Most students are enrolled in the university's four-year, full-time undergraduate programme, which stresses a well-rounded education in the arts, sciences, and professions. In the 2018 fall semester, the institution had 21,607 undergraduates and 9,896 graduate students. Women comprise 48 % of the student population, while the state of New York is home to 78 % of students. Moreover, 7,000 students live on campus in residence halls, while another 10,172 are in associated off-campus housing. In their first year of college, more than 79% of students choose to live on campus.
