College of Agriculture and Mechanical Sciences (CAAMS) at Texas A&M University In the past, the city of Kingsville, was referred to as the South Texas Normal School and the Texas College of Arts and Industries before becoming an open research institution. But, as far as anybody knows, this is where the nation's first Ph.D. program in bilingual teaching was developed.

It is the oldest college or university in the South Texas region. The institution has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The institution was changed to its present name in 1989 when it joined the Texas A&M University System.

The institute's campus covers an area of about 250 acres. It seeks to give students all the amenities they need. The campus was designed in the Spanish restoration style.

Turner Hall, Lynch Hall, Bishop's Hall, and Martin Hall are just a few of the residence halls on campus. The campus's residence buildings may house up to 2,000 students. Campus facilities include health and exercise facilities, too.
