Saskatchewan University is Canada's top medical/doctoral universities with a broad combination of human, animal, and plant studies all in one campus. As one of Canada's 15 leading research-intensive universities, USask provides a highly collaborative research environment with some of the best facilities and analytical tools.
The University of Saskatchewan was established on March 19, 1907, and is situated in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, on the east bank of the South Saskatchewan River. In 1907, the provincial assembly enacted an "Act to Establish and Incorporate a University for the Province of Saskatchewan".
"For the goal of providing facilities for higher education in all its disciplines and allowing all individuals, regardless of race, faith or religion, to take the utmost benefit," it created the provincial university on March 19, 1907.
With over 20,000 students, the University of Saskatchewan is Saskatchewan's most prominent educational institution. In addition, the U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities includes the University of Saskatchewan, one of the country's top research institutions.
When the institution was founded in 1907, it was the first university-based extension department in Canada. One hundred twenty hectares (300 acres) for university buildings and 400 hectares (1,000 acres) for the University of Saskatchewan farm and agricultural fields were set aside to develop the campus. The institution absorbed 10.32 square kilometres (3.98 square miles).
The main university campus occupies 981 hectares (2,425 acres), while the Innovation Place Research Park has another 200 hectares (500 acres). In addition, the agricultural faculty of the University of Saskatchewan still has access to nearby urban research grounds.
