GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering
What is the purpose of GATE exam?
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE is an online national level examination. This exam is a gateway for admissions into Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (MTech) and direct PhD admissions at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other institutes/universities across India.
GATE scores are also used for Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) recruitment.
Who conducts GATE Exam?
The GATE exam is conducted by IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee and Indian Institute for Science, Bangalore (IISC Bangalore) on a rotational basis.
Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after B.Sc./Diploma in Engineering /Technology) / Currently in the third year or higher grade
BArch
Bachelor’s degree of Architecture (5- year course) / Naval Architecture (4- year course) / Planning (4- year course) / Currently in the third year or higher grade
BSc (Research) / BS

GATE Eligibility for International Candidates
Candidates who have obtained their qualifying degree or are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India must meet the eligibility criteria as metioned below:
Must have completed or in the final year or in the pre-final year of their bachelor’s degree in engineering and technology or;
Must have completed or in the final year or in the pre-final year of their Post Graduate degree in any relevant science subjects
GATE Eligibility – Supporting Documents
Candidates have to submit the degree certificate/provisional certificate/ course completion certificate/ professional certificate/ membership certificate issued by the institute or society they are enrolled in for the degree programme.
Candidate is appearing in the final year of the qualifying programme must upload a certificate from the head of the department of their institution or upload a copy of the marks sheet for section A of AMIE. This certificate should be signed by the Head of the Department (HOD) with the current date.
Create a username and password on the official GATE website using a valid email address, mobile number and password.
Upon successful registration, an email with Enrolment ID will be sent to the candidate on the email address provided in the application form.
2. Fill the online application form for GATE
Login with your credentials.
Provide Personal information (name, date of birth, personal mobile number, parents' name, parents' mobile number, etc.).
Provide complete Correspondence Address for Communication
Upload the required degree, images of photo and signatures and other supporting documents
Fill-in the subject of the GATE paper
Select the GATE examination centre where reaching on the exam date is easiest
Upload the following documents / images:
a) The signed application form (with photograph affixed) with Principal’s certificate, if that is the proof of your eligibility to appear in GATE or other eligibility documents required to appear in GATE (e.g., degree certificate).
b) A recent photograph meeting the size and quality criteria mentioned in the application form
c) Category certificate, if availed in the application form
d) Image of the candidates' signature as per the size and quality criteria mentioned in the application form
3: Payment of GATE application fee
Candidates have to pay the GATE application fee after filling the online application form in any of the online payment modes accepted.

How to Download GATE Admit Card/ Hall Ticket?
GATE admit card can only be downloaded in online mode from the official website. Hard copy of the admit card will not be sent to candidates. Follow the below steps to download GATE admit card online.

2: Login with your Enrollment ID and Password to log in
3: After successful login, GATE admit card will be displayed on the screen
